Lazyboy pimps Newgrounds

Lazyboy is an animator from Israel, most famous for his cartoons created for pervy podcast Distorted View, and for being highly, badly, umm...well just watch this cartoon.

Newgrounds is a website for content creators to share animations, games and novelties made in Flash. It's free for anyone, and one of the greatest online animation communties we have. Yeah, it's pretty much wall-to-wall porn. Badly drawn wall-to-wall porn. Just watch the toon, dammit. Thank you.

p.s.: If you're thinking of downloading and listening to the Distorted View show, ahhh, don't. Just, don't. Let it go, trust me, unless you've got a carbon-fibre soul and kevlar eardrums, you don't wanna expose yerself. O.k., you done been warn'd.

MONSTERJAM pt. 1-YouTube edition

Apologies to all you blog-goers out there having trouble with the MyToons embed. If you can't get it to run in your browser, you need to install Adobe Flash Player 9 (MyToons updated it to the latest when they went HD!). I've also uploaded a copy of the MJ to my YouTube page if yer still havin' troubles. Enjoy!

Blogger's Choice Awards- 2nd place: Rafa Toro

I'm back with the next installment of the MONSTERJAM Blogger's Choice Awards. Oh, and you'll be happy to note that the export went smoothly last night, so you'll all be able to see the full part 1 of the jam when I upload it to MyToons this Friday!

Now, on to business. 2nd place prize is a copy of Kazu Kibuishi's awesome 'Amulet: Volume 1', signed with a sketch by the author.

The winner? Spain's Rafa Toro, a most excellent Flash character designer and animator who's been profiled on Drawn before. Here, he shows us in just ten seconds why animated potatoes and ancient Greek monsters don't mix. Great design and execution, and some great sound work too!

I'll be announcing my 'Honorable Mention' prize tomorrow, then we'll wrap up the week by announcing the 1st place winner, and seeing the 1st part of the full MONSTERJAM film! Woot! Meanwhile, stay frosty, people.

MONSTERJAM: Edits n' stuff

Sorry for the delay, folks...getting all them logos together. Plus, Christian Nelson's entry still won't work, dammit! Meanwhile, here's a teaser...Joseph Troy's entry. He's worked on My Friend Rabbit and Max n' Ruby, among others. Here, he takes a breather from bunnies and shows us who he thinks the real monster is. More to come...

Bitfilm Festival: call for entries!

Bitfilm is an online filmmakers community based in Hamburg. They've got a yearly thang, the Bitfilm Festival, showcasing some fine-ass animation, and they've just put out the call for entries. Just click on the link to go to the site. It's all online, so you can grab a free membership (they've got pay for promo options as well, just so's ya knows) and submit your film YouTube styles. Multiple categories for Machinima, Flash, 3d, mobile, and composite FX films...ifn' it's animated, (or has animation in it) you can submit it! Just don't dawdle, cuz the deadline is just over a month away. Cheers!

Cintiq 12wx-Gate...the followup

Apologies to all for not posting over the holidays...being down with the sickness ain't exactly conducive to finding animation goodies on the interwebs. However, Mark Dowsett over there at Vibe Computing was kind enough to keep me posted about the price problems with the 12wx, Wacom's drool-worthy new artist toy. Seems Mark did some back and forthing with Wacom and managed to get the price down to $1179 canuck bucks...it's still almost $200 over Wacom's suggested retail, but ya gotta remember that the retailers can't keep a load of these in stock...they're not gonna move like Ipods, after all. Plus, Vibe offers a demo program for y'all who want to kick the tires before drivin' this beauty off the lot.

I'd also like to point out that both Mark and the doods from Silicon Cowboys got back to me with prompt replies and emails...still waitin' on Vistek. So if you've got the dosh and wanna be flash-a-matin' like a crazy maniac, go get yerself one. Me, I gotta waits for the birthday. C'mon, April! And thanks once again to Mark Dowsett of Vibe Computing for the feedback and candor.

Cintiq 12wx: it's a grand, baby!

Hate to nick shit from John Martz over there at Drawn, but all you TAIS members gotta know about this. The Cintiq 12wx is a sketchbook-sized version of Wacom's awesome draw-on lcd monitors, with a 12.1 inch diagonal screen...essentially you've got 8 1/2 x 11 inches to draw on. The bonus is that the unit is small and light enough to be spun round on a table top, so hard-to-draw angles are no sweat. Everything I've heard about performance is telling me that this is the same Cintiq quality that has made this the digital art tool to have, just more compact.

Here's the kicker: the e-mail I got from Wacom yesterday lists this lil' darlin' at $999 canuck bucks! It ain't cheap, but it's definetly sumthin' you could save yer nickels for over a few months and own. Good on ya, Wacom! I'll be getting one of these lil' beauts for me birthday, I thinks. There's a bit of a demo courtesy of them there YouTubes below. And here Christmas is right 'round the corner. If you've got a flash animator or digital artist on yer shoppin' list, a slightly overweight wallet and a need to be a holiday hero this year, well, hop on over to the Wacom E-Shop and get you one!

Apple Nikki

Apple Nikki is the online nom de plume of Sasapitt Rujirat, an animator workin' out of Thailand. Stock n' trade? Cute characters, buttery smoove camera work and a knack for pickin' out catchy tunes. That piece in Zoey is from fave PSP game Loco Roco by the way. Loverly stuff. Rediscovered Apple Nikki's work through MyToons, which I just signed up fer. Enjoy!
